Disney Pulls December 2026 Star Wars Movie – Probably The Rey Sequel

News broke this weekend that Disney pulls the December 2026 Star Wars film from schedule and it’s probably the Rey Sequel. Now given the timing one could be forgiven for thinking this means that movie is indeed cancelled in favour of the Simon Kinberg trilogy. However, there is actually nothing here to point towards that, yet. Source is Variety.

The Rey Sequel was rumored to be the film set to release on December 2026. However, that movie remains unwritten. Last we heard, rumor was they had a new unnamed writer now on board. The point is, there seemed no way this movie was ever going to make a December 2026 release date. Ergo, the movie getting pulled from the schedule is actually just what we expected to see given the circumstances.

It remains possible the movie could get a new release date in 2027. However, we must also remember that there is this newly revealed Simon Kinberg trilogy. Rumor is that could be set to kick off around 2027. We also have solid rumors and some trade stories that Rey is in this trilogy as the Obi-Wan Kenobi type figure. Which so far is presenting everyone in the entertainment news sector a mystery. Will the trilogy mean the Obaid-Chinoy directed Rey Sequel is actually not happening?

No one knows. However, there was an interesting response from star Daisy Ridley when she was asked about these rumors. Ridley appeared on The One Show on BBC in the U.K. You can catch the clip below. Host Roman Kemp refers to Ridley’s previous visit to the show. At that point Ridley was asked about the sequel movie, just after it had been announced she was back. Her response at that time was simply, It’s exciting and that’s all she would say.

Her response here when Kemp asks her about the stories its now three movies is exactly the same. However, body language wise, I get the feeling Ridley herself is not quote sure what the hell is going on, other than she’s coming back eventually. Check it out.

What do you think of the news Disney pulls the December 2026 Star Wars movie? What happens next with the Rey Sequel? Is it dead and replaced by Kinberg’s trilogy or not? Thoughts below.
