Black Panther Beats Captain America: Civil War’s Advanced Ticket Sales

While we all expected Black Panther to do pretty darn well, it looks like it may very well be exceeding those expectations. In addition to being a part of the highly successful Marvel Studios brand, Black Panther also marks another first: the first superhero film to feature a mostly non-white cast. It was predicted that this would be one of the reasons for its success, but is it doing even better?

Fandango has announced that Black Panther is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fastest-selling film in the first 24 hours of advanced ticket sales. Who held the previous record in this shared universe? None other than Captain America: Civil War, a film that went on to gross $1.15 million worldwide. That’s some pretty good company to be in.

Here’s what Fandango editor Erik Davis had to say in a statement (via TheWrap):

Black Panther is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now. It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the Internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since presales started on Fandango late Monday.”

At this point, it’s too early to tell just how much Black Panther will sell. When all said and done, we’ll have to wait to see if the movie is as good as it looks, but if it is, it’ll likely break all sorts of records for Marvel Studios.
