It looks like Marvel Studios’ next film, Black Panther, will have a fairly substantial runtime. According to one of our sources, the film has been stated by Disney to have a runtime of 134 minutes in length. This translates to two hours and 14 minutes, including credits.
While this may seem like a fairly extensive runtime for a standalone Marvel film, in the grand scheme of things, it’s pretty par for the course. This year alone saw Marvel runtimes range from 130 minutes to 136 minutes, and while you could argue it’s because of the larger scope of the films (two are team-up films, and one incorporates another incorporates a new character into the MCU), all signs have been pointing to Black Panther having a fairly extensive scope as well.

All in all, it seems like a strong runtime for a film of this nature. It’s long enough to tell a story of substantial nature, but not too long as to put too much of a strain on audience’s bladders. For reference, Marvel Studios’ longest movie to date has been Captain America: Civil War, which clocked in at 147 minutes — or two hours and 27 minutes.
Now, it’s worth asking just how accurate this 134-minute claim could be. After all, there have been several instances of runtimes being flat-out wrong. Our source said that while it’s possible that the number could change a bit, it won’t be much, if at all. This is the number given by Disney so that the theaters can plan their theater schedules, and if the number is off by any meaningful amount, it’d spell disaster for their schedules. So we believe this is a number you can take to the bank.
