It is not surprise that Black Widow is a highly anticipated film. Part of this is due to fan-favorite Natasha Romanoff’s death in Avengers: Endgame. The other is because it is one of the first mentioned films in the post-Endgame phase. Add Covid delays and we get even more anticipation. Even though Endgame brings fans some “closure” regarding Black Widow, her past has always been a mystery. That is also part of the intrigue of the upcoming prequel. Even though the film takes place after Civil War, which is not deep into her past, we will still have the opportunity to see exactly what Natasha was up to. Anytime there is a film met with high anticipation the first question to follow (usually before the film is released) is: “Will there be a sequel?” So of course, the idea of a Black Widow sequel is already being discussed.
Deadline is able to sit down with the Black Widow director, Cate Shortland. Many questions are posed. However, the response regarding a Black Widow sequel is of interest.
Shortland responds with, “I think these girls have got a lot of asses still to kick.”
Sure, there is not much depth to the response. However, we all know how well Marvel does with their planning. I would assume this has been an idea for some time. Of course, it all depends on how well the film does. But, Box Office predictions are looking at a domestic opening of $80-$90 million. Not only will there be the theatrical release, but it can also be viewed on Disney + Premier for $29.99.

Going the prequel route brings plenty of opportunities for a Black Widow sequel. Since Shortland discusses how they worked to create a backstory, there is plenty more to explore.
