Black Widow Is Delayed Due To Coronavirus – As Expected

Black Widow Is Delayed Due To Coronavirus

Black Widow is delayed due to Coronavirus, yes, I think we all expected this to happen. Black Widow is almost certianly in a completed state right now, so the delay isn’t to safeguard production. However, there are no theaters open to show the movie on. This is what has prompted Disney to delay Black Widow for now.

Many fans, myself included, had hoped Disney might push Black Widow straight to Disney+. Whilst this may seem like economic suicide it’s actually a smart way to drive Disney+ subs. Especially at a time when people are staying home more. We are already seeing movies only recently in cinema screens going for digital releases quicker. The reason for the change in policy is because no one is going to go and see those movies right now anyway.

Black Widow is in a different position, having not even had an opening weekend release at cinemas. According to Variety, Disney has also pulled The Personal History of David Copperfield from its Searchlight banner and The Woman in the Window, a 20th Century title, due to debut on May 8 and April 15, respectively. It’s unclear when any of these films will be released, including Black Widow, which was due to hit on May 1st.

Insiders say Marvel believes this delay won’t have a massive impact on the universe they are building. It is likely the whole Marvel slate will slide the side accounting for all the varied delays in productions as well. From what we do know, it seems like Marvel would be reluctant to shift the order we see its properties being released. The design of the MCU means it would be very tricky not to keep the order of release, normally planned years in advance. A delay therefore at the beginning, could mean delays farther down the line. Until we know more though, who can say when Black Widow will get released?

Well folks, Black Widow is delayed due to Coronavirus, what do you think? Should Disney have released it on Disney+ instead? Leave your thoughts below in our completely sterile comments section.
