Oftentimes, Blake Lee gets offers for many comedic roles over the years. Then one day, a role to play a villainous role of a child kidnapper in Freeform’s Cruel Summer was too juicy of a part to pass up. The character of vice principal Martin Harris, who kidnapped Kate Wallis, is too dark, mysterious, and constantly lurks in each episode without even making a specific appearance.
Lee stars along with Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, and Harley Quinn Smith in the first season of Cruel Summer that has young adults talking after each episode about the drama and secrets in this unique storytelling series featuring three separate years of the characters’ lives.
Here’s the official synopsis:
From executive producer Jessica Biel (The Sinner), Cruel Summer is a psychological thriller that follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate’s disappearance. All signs point to Jeanette’s guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America.
