Blumhouse has been on fire for the past few years, really buckling down on their low budget approach to filmmaking, which has allowed them incredibly high returns on investment. In addition to being a box office juggernaut (with its revenue recently passing $4 billion), they also have managed to create interesting, original projects that have become big names in their own right.
They have also opened up deals with TV networks, there’s one for a Hulu for an anthology series and another with USA for The Purge. But they aren’t limiting themselves. Rather than restrict themselves to working on TV projects for these networks and streaming service, why not give them your own film services? That’s exactly what they’re doing with Amazon, Variety reports.
According to them, Blumhouse Television will produce eight original thrillers for Amazon Studios, with their filmmakers set to come from diverse backgrounds. Personally, it’s super interesting to me that Blumhouse TV will be the ones putting out what are essentially feature-length films.

“Jason Blum has built an empire based on fear, shock and all things spine-tingling,” Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke said in announcing the deal Wednesday. “He has redefined the horror genre for fans who are hungry for high concept scares. Whether it’s found footage, a socially conscious terror comedy or a pure sinister adrenaline ride, he reinvented and infused the genre with cultural relevancy.”
“We are delighted Amazon is entrusting Blumhouse to deliver its signature thrills and chills to its global audience through this deal,” said Blum. “This is a great opportunity for Blumhouse Television to empower underrepresented filmmakers offering a fresh take on the dark genres loved by fans the world over.”
