Bob Iger Says More Films May Be Headed To Disney+

Currently it’s unknown when we are going to get back to a “normal” way of life. This is a big problem for films that were slated to be released during this time. At this point most of the big blockbuster films have been moved to the fall or next year. But other films are being moved to streaming services where families can watch them while they are stuck at home. These are films that won’t necessarily be bringing in the big bucks, but they will give studios an idea of how the effect of releasing films in this manner.

Dreamworks Animation/ Universal’s Trolls World Tour is one of the films that is going to be part of this experiment. Today it was also announced that Disney’s Artemis Fowl will also be skipping the movie theater and going straight to Disney+. This film had already been moved around the release calendar and it didn’t have high expectations. But according to Bob Iger via Deadline, that may not be the last film that we see take that route.

“In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+, but for the most part a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we’ll simply wait for slots. In some cases, we’ve announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar,” Iger said in an interview.

Iger didn’t name any specific films that may make the move to their streaming service. But there is an ongoing rumor that New Mutants which was taken off the calendar because of the current Pandemic, was going to Hulu. With how long this film has suffered delay after delay, they should just do the right thing and set it free on one of their streaming services.
