Bond 25: Rami Malek’s One Demand For Taking On The Villain Role

The production of the currently-untitled Bond 25 may have hit some serious production problems in recent months, but we WILL be getting this movie. Of course, they have Daniel Craig still attached to star in the film in what will be his final outing as the titular James Bond, but they also have another big talent in the form of Rami Malek, who will be playing the villain in the flick.

However, this is a role that apparently came with some strings attached to it. Speaking with the UK tabloid The Daily Mirror, Malek said he had a very specific requirement when it came to his character in the movie.

“I said, ‘We cannot identify him with any act of terrorism reflecting an ideology or religion. That’s not something I would entertain, so if that is why I am your choice then you can count me out.’”

“It’s a great character and I’m very excited. But that was one thing that I discussed with [director Cary Fukunaga]…But that was clearly not his vision. So he’s a very different kind of terrorist.”

It’s a valid concern. Given Malek’s Egyptian heritage and Hollywood’s tendency to skew a certain way with certain races, it’s nice to know they’ll be going a different way in terms of his motivations.
