Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, Bond producers say Idris Elba is in the conversation for new Bond. The pair briefly discussed the search for a new Bond in a recent interview with Deadline. Once again the producers reiterated that right now it’s about celebrating Daniel Craig and his final film No Time To Die. However they did respond to questions about one fan favorite, and that of course was Idris Elba.

“Well, we know Idris, we’re friends with him, and he’s a magnificent actor. And, you know, it’s been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat. So, you know, I think we have decided that until No Time to Die has had its run and Daniel has been able to – well, we’ve all been able to savor, reap the benefits of Daniel’s wonderful tenure, we’re not gonna think about, or talk about anybody else.”

That’s that then, there’s basically is no news because currently they have not begun the search for a new Bond, at least not officially. To be honest I cannot see Elba getting the nod. When Craig was hired it was rumored Elba was also considered and yes, at that point Idris Elba would have made a great Bond. However, I feel like whilst he’s not too old to play Bond, he is too old to begin playing Bond.

Elba is now 49 years old, Daniel Craig is 53. Given that it seems like we will be at least 2-3 years away from a new Bond movie I really think Elba being roughly ages with Craig’s retirement is just not going to work. Yes, Elba would have been great if Craig hadn’t been chosen. However I think the time now has passed and the Bond producers should be looking for someone in their very late 30’s or early 40’s for the role so they can have 3-5 movies if successful.
