Boyega Was Heartbroken Trevorrow’s Star Wars Episode 9 Never Happened

Daisy Ridley confirms the script for Rey Sequel movie still not ready, however she still expects it to start filming this year or early next.

Actor John Boyega was heartbroken Trevorrow’s Star Wars Episode 9 never happened. Unless you somehow missed all this, before Jar Jar Abrams was brought back to make the abomination that was The Rise of Skywalker, a script and director was already in place. Filmmaker Colin Trevorrow was hired to write and direct Star Wars Episode 9 and his script was titled Duel of the Fates.

I’ve read the script for Duel of the Fates and whilst I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s good, it is definitely better than Rise of Skywalker. I mean for a start Trevorrow’s script doesn’t make Anakin’s sacrifice and redemption in Return of the Jedi seem pointless. By my book that gives it a lot of points over Skywalker.

Boyega himself has always seemed very supporting of Abrams and a little less so of Rian Johnson. I don’t think Boyega was happy with the direction Johnson took his character in that movie. However in a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Boyega said he was heartbroken when Trevorrow’s script was replaced.

“I can’t read that one because I’ll be heartbroken, because I was… Had a sit down with Colin,” Boyega explained. “I want to tell you… that’s one of the best Star Wars… meetings I’d ever had because it felt like two nerds that were like, ‘Yes, that’s what we want to see!’ …And I saw the art, you know, Stormtrooper rebellion, I was like, that stuff was cold.”

“Hopefully, Lucasfilm can give him an opportunity down the line to maybe work on something else, you know?” Boyega continued. “Because I’m sure they would love to collaborate with him again in any capacity.”

I dunno John, if they were desperate to work with Trevorrow why did they panic replace him at the last  minute on Episode 9? Do we think it was Lucasfilm who leaked the script for Duel of the Fates? It’s far more likely it was Trevorrow or someone on his team. I’m not so sure I’d expect to see Trevorrow in the GFFA again. Personally, I don’t particularly rate Trevorrow as a writer or director. I don’t like the Jurassic World movies. I also didn’t think all that much of the Duel of the Fates script. However that’s just me and my own opinions.

What do you think of the news that John Boyega was heartbroken Trevorrow’s Star Wars Episode 9 never happened? Have you read the script for Duel of the Fates? Do you think it was good enough to film, irrespective of your feelings on Skywalker?
