Brad Pitt Thinks Acting Is A Young Man’s Game?

Okay, ladies and gents. Get Brad Pitt away from Quentin Tarantino. It’s clear the auteur filmmaker has already had too much of an influence on Pitt’s psyche. Tarantino himself has always said that directing is a young man’s game, and that we can expect him to retire from the profession after roughly 10 films, give or take one or two, depending on life’s circumstances and whatnot.

And now, prior to the release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, one of the film’s stars, Brad Pitt, has been reported saying some awfully similar stuff. Speaking with GQ Australia, the actor discussed why we’ve been seeing him less and less and recent years, and why we can likely expect to see him even less than that in the future.

“I’m behind the camera on the producing side and I enjoy that a lot. But I keep doing less and less. I really believe that overall it’s a younger man’s game – not that there aren’t substantial parts for older characters – I just feel, the game itself, it’ll move on naturally. There will be a natural selection to it all.”

“But I’m curious to see what the future of [film] is, what shape it takes. I really appreciate the streaming services because we’re seeing more and more quality projects being made. We’re seeing more writers and directors and actors getting a shot. It just tells you how many talented people are out there.”

“I like to think there’s room for both. But I could be a dinosaur and not even know it, man. And the comet could be on the way.”

Oh, wow. It’s almost as if Pitt has just finished acting in a film where actors are shown as being dinosaurs from an era gone by. Who’d’ve thought a piece of fiction could actually influence an acclaimed actor like him away from the profession that made him famous.

In all seriousness, the actor did say there could be room for both, but after spending decades in one arena, you could hardly blame him for wanting to explore another more.
