Brandon Routh In Kingdom Come Superman Attire On The Set Of The CW’s Crisis On Infinite Earths Crossover

One of the big events on The CW’s television schedule is the annual crossover event of its DC “Arrowverse” shows. This year’s adventure—inspired by the Crisis On Infinite Earths run from the comic publisher—is proving to be especially epic with recent announcements made. Aside from this being the final season of the first of the CW’s DC television universe, Arrow, the upcoming event is featuring past stars that date back to when the channel was under the WB name. Tom Welling (Clark Kent on Smallville) and Ashley Scott (Huntress on Birds Of Prey) have recently been announced to be featured in the big event.

Another big name involved is former cinematic Superman Brandon Routh. While Routh has currently been seen on the CW series DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, he will be donning the comic book Kingdom Come Superman look for this event. On Tuesday, Routh took to his Instagram account and posted a shot of himself in his suit alongside current CW Superman Tyler Hoechlin.

Routh burst onto the scene—after a few television stints—in Bryan Singer’s 2006 film Superman Returns, the first Superman film in nearly twenty years. Since then, he appeared in projects like Zach And Miri Make A Porno, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, and 400 Days before accepting the role of Ray Palmer aka The Atom on Arrow in 2014. He then joined the cast of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow as said character in 2016. Having been a former Superman, Routh’s appearance is not only an homage to the role that gave him stardom, but is also great fan service by using an iconic look from one of the most revered comic book runs in DC’s existence.

While lacking in the budgets of DC and Marvel major motion pictures, the CW’s “Arrowverse” provides some fun entertainment for comic book readers and non-comic readers alike. Heroes and villains that may not be popular enough yet to be on the big screen are given daylight on the smaller screen, introducing audiences to unique characters. With this year’s crossover, the CW and DC look to make a lasting impact with the amount of past and present talent joining in on the fun—and saying goodbye to the character that started it all, Oliver Queen.
