Breaking! London Disney+ Launch Event Canceled Due To Coronavirus Concerns

Disney CEO Bob Iger says they've quietly cancelled some Marvel movies as part of their brand refocus.

The coronavirus is certainly having a bit impact on things. Disney+ still hasn’t launched in the U.K. or parts of Central Europe. Whilst the service has launched across most of the World, it doesn’t launch in the aforementioned territories until March 24th. With that in mind, Disney had a big launch event planned in London for this Thursday, the 5th.

We have no idea what exactly was planned for this event. There has been some speculation that fans might have been treated to a new look at some Disney+ shows. Specifically, rumors had some footage of Loki, WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier being teased. There was even talk of perhaps using this is as a platform to announce some rumored series that hasn’t been made official. I suspect it was a lot of speculation and wishful thinking on fans part but who knows?

I’m afraid, as the headline already reveals, that those plans have now been shelved. Disney has been forced to cancel the launch event amid growing concerns over the spread of Coronavirus. This is certainly not the first event to be cancelled in lieu of the current outbreak scares. Many sporting events have been delayed or canceled in certain countries due to Coronavirus, with more expected to follow. Here is the official statement from Disney.

“Due to a number of media attendee cancellations and increasing concerns at the prospect of traveling internationally at this time, we have decided to cancel our Disney+ launch events scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday.”

Disney will continue to promote the launch of Disney+ on March 24th. It seems the promotion of the European launch will now just be limited to social media and press notices.

So for fans from all over the world. I would take a guess that whatever Disney intended to show in London this week, will still be released. There is simply no reason not to push ahead with the marketing even if they cannot have a big press event. Of course, that means we still don’t know if we will get anything juicy to look at or not?

I guess this Coronvirus is going to cause quite a few problems going forward. If it is safer for people to keep away from big public events though, well, putting lives at risk is just not worth it. Luckily, with Disney+ launching in a few weeks (for me in the U.K.), I’ll have plenty to keep me occupied.
