UPDATE: According to Variety, the deal has closed between Warner Bros. and Pattinson. Looks like he’s our new Bats, for real now.

ORIGINAL STORY:

It looks like Warner Bros.has finally settled on their Caped Crusader, Deadline reports. After previous reports that Robert Pattinson was screen testing alongside Nicholas Hoult, but the outlet is hearing that the former Twilight star will indeed be taking the cowl from Ben Affleck in the upcoming The Batman from Matt Reeves. Not only that, but he looks to be playing the character in a trilogy of films from the War For the Planet of the Apes helmer.

Apparently, Pattinson had been a favorite of writer-director from the beginning, but the studio was torn between him and Tolkien and Dark Phoenix star Nicholas Hoult — hence the screen testing. However, after meetings took place yesterday, the decision was actually made to hire Pattinson.

That being said, it’s worth mentioning this is NOT a done deal yet. With the studio finally settling on him, negotiations are beginning. Given the series of auditions and all that, I doubt we’ll be seeing this deal fall through, but in Hollywood, crazier things have happened. I’m sure Warner Bros. themselves won’t be announcing this for certain until the ink has dried on the contracts.
