DC Universe’s Doom Patrol team is closer to being complete. With April Bowlby playing Elasti-Woman, Diane Guerrero playing Crazy Jane, Deadline is reporting the that a key character in the Doom Patrol team has finally been cast, Robotman.
Cliff Steele aka Robotman will be played by The Mummy and The Mummy Returns star Brendan Fraser. He will be providing the voice over for the character as well as appear in the flashback scenes as Cliff Steele. Riley Shanahan will also take on the role providing the physical performance of the character.
Robotman is a very important character in the history of the Doom Patrol as he is the only character to appear in every version of the team since hey were introduced. His first appearance was in DC Comics’ My Greatest Adventure #80 in June, 1963 and was created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani. As Cliff Steele he was a race car driver who was in a horrific accident that left his body useless. Dr. Niles Caulder saved his brain and put it in a powerful robotic body.
Fraser was recently on Audience Network’s Condor and FX’s Trust and Showtimes The Affair. Doom Patrol is being written by Jeremy Carver who will also serve as executive producer along with Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions’ Sarah Schechter. It will be a re-imagination of one of the DC Universe’s strangest group of outcasts brought together by the mysterious Dr. Caulder, who are reluctantly called into action by Cyborg, played by Jovian Wade.
