Bright 2: Incredible Hulk’s Louis Leterrier In Talks To Take Directing Duties From David Ayer

Bright 2 may finally be gaining traction with a new director.

It’s already been over three years since Bright graced Netflix accounts worldwide. And it was kind of a big deal. Yes, Netflix had already been producing movies, but this was their first real turn at producing something that was blockbuster-quality. It featured a fantasy world, tons of visual effects and makeup, and of course, big stars like Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. It even had a big Hollywood director like David Ayer, who was fresh off of Suicide Squad.

Though while Netflix was quick to reveal their intentions for a sequel, things didn’t work out so quickly. Max Landis, the first film’s screenwriter, faced a mountain of controversy surrounding his relationship with his girlfriend. While I don’t know if any of this had any effect on the sequel taking so long, they don’t seem like they’ve been in any real rush to get the movie done.

Now, it looks like they’ve gained some momentum. Deadline is reporting that Netflix is in negotiations with Louis Leterrier to take over as director of the film. You may not recognize the name, but he’s done plenty of fun films. He first came on the radar with the Jason Statham-starring vehicle (pun intended) The Transporter. From there, he also went on to direct The Incredible Hulk, the second film in the MCU starring Edward Norton.

In the years since then, he’s been involved with a few big projects. Most recently, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance as executive producer and director. Needless to say, he’s come a long way, and I think he’s a good choice to carry on the story David Ayer started. Perhaps with his hand on the wheel, he’ll be able to dive into more of the world-building that first film was sorely lacking.

Should he hop onto the project, he would be directing a script written by David Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos, with a rewrite by T.S. Nowlin.

If nothing else, this movie is likely to gain some extra traction in the wake of the Chris Hemsworth vehicle Extraction (no pun intended), which was a big success for the streamer. But what do you think of Leterrier taking over for Bright 2? Let us know your thoughts down below!
