Bromantic Blades

Kevin Feige shook up the Marvel Universe last week with the announcement of a Blade film starring Luke Cage’s Mahershala Ali. The film is planned to be released in Marvel’s Phase 4. For me, this seismic news split fans into two distinctive camps. You were either in group A that rejoiced the casting of the two time Oscar winner. Or you were as mystified as I was in group B wondering where the hell was Wesley Snipes at and why he wasn’t cast in the project.

Shortly thereafter the veteran Daywalker and Blade franchise alum Wesley Snipes took voiced his genuine excitement over Mahershala Ali’s casting in the project. You can read that here –

To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL GOOD. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together. Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”

Now Marvel’s new Blade has come out and released a quasi tribute to the original Daywalker. The post clearly shows Ali’s level of respect for the OG Blade. You can check out Ali’s Instagram post below.

It’s pretty exciting to hear that Ali will be joining the Blade series for Marvel. I am a big fan of the original Blade film and it’s sequel Blade 2. However, in my view Blade Trinity is the bastard step-child of the series. The best thing that came out of it was Ryan Reynolds playing number 1 out of the 3 Superheroes he’d added to his filmography. Are you looking forward to seeing Ali claim his stake in the new Marvel Universe? Are you apart of group A or Group B when it comes to Marvel’s casting of Blade?
