Bruce Campbell Talks Marvel Studio Meddling On Multiverse of Madness

We all know Marvel keeps a tight rein. However in a recent interview Bruce Campbell talks Marvel meddling on Multiverse of Madness. Campbell appears in an unknown role within the movie directed by long time collaborator, director Sam Raimi. When Campbell recently spoke to Game Informer he spoke a little about how the studio kept changing the goalposts  on Raimi.

“The Marvel guys, they make eight of these movies at the same time, so they’re always updating storylines. So, my buddy Sam [Raimi] has had to add scenes that [Marvel] told him he had to shoot, and he’s removed scenes that no longer apply. So until May rolls around I don’t think Benedict Cumberbatch even knows if he’s in this movie or not.”

A few other outlets have covered this and fans have taken a negative reaction to this online. Let’s just be clear here. Marvel Studios has always done this. There may be some directors and some projects which have allowed for greater creative control. However considering what this movie is, how it unlocks the Multiverse etc, it’s not that surprising. For example perhaps certain scenes would need to be added or removed if certain cameo’s they thought they’d get didn’t materialize? MoM is also a movie that feels like it set’s much of what comes next in the MCU. Therefore I can totally see why Marvel need to make changes. We also know that Marvel will start filming before they are completely happy with the story, and work on it as they go.

If I was a director and was asked to helm a project by Marvel I think I’d know it was not going to end up completely my own vision. However given Raimi’s clout, some fans are still upset. I say wait until you see the movie, if it works, it works. If you feel it doesn’t work, then perhaps the studio interference will be to blame? However there is no point getting all angry now and then creaming yourself in a few weeks when you love the movie.
