Bryce Dallas Howard Is Directing The Mandalorian Season 2

Bryce Dallas Howard confirms she is directing The Mandalorian Season 2. Howard confirmed the news when she spoke to Collider recently about her new documentary Dads, and latest movie Jurassic World: Dominion. We can add Howard to the names we already know who are directing episodes of The Mandalorian Season 2.

Bryce Dallas Howard, is not the only returning director from Season 1 as both Rick Famuyiwa, and Dave Filoni are back at the helm. This season there are some new faces too, with Peyton Reed, Robert Rodriguez, and Carl Weathers who also plays Greef Karga on the show. Of course that gives us six names in total, and with a likely eight episode Season, we could missing two names as yet. Maybe?

Last Season saw Deborah Chow, and Dave Filoni direct two episodes each. There are no clues to say that will happen again this year though. Dave Filoni is only directing one episode this season, as per his own comments previously. However, another of the directors listed could easily be directing two episodes of El Mando Season 2.  It won’t be Bryce Dallas Howard though.

Howard confirmed she is directing AN episode of El Mando Season 2. i.e. singular, check it out the transcript below.

“I directed an episode on the second season of Mandalorian. That’s already done, which is wonderful, so I’m looking forward to that coming out at the end of the year.”

I must say that the episode Dallas Howard directed in The Mandalorian Season 1 was one of my least favorites. BDH directed ‘The Sanctuary’, that was the Magnificent 7 episode with the AT-ST. I think ‘The Sanctuary’ was one of the hardest gigs to direct in Season 1. Not only did it have the AT-ST and a large cast, it also had in my opinion one of the weakest scripts.

I said at the time and my opinion has not changed, ‘The Sanctuary’ felt like an episode of any generic TV show from the ’80’s or ’90’s. The whole premise of the episode was too grand to be able to pull off across one 30 minute episode. If ‘The Sanctuary’ had been a two-part story, that skipped Episode 5 (an episode which added nothing) it might have worked for me more? I just didn’t feel I had enough to time to care about that village or the characters outside of the main cast in that episode.

However, with a better script this time around, I have no doubt Howard will deliver. I think The Mandalorian had a rough middle section in Season 1 and I hope that’s been rectified for Season 2. What do you think, are you happy Bryce Dallas Howard is back directing The Mandalorian Season 2? Let us know below.
