Destiny 2 is getting a Next Gen makeover in December. The new Destiny 2 expansion Beyond Light releases on the same day as the Xbox Series X. We already knew that Destiny 2 owners will get a free upgrade to the Series X and PS5. However, there is a little more coming down the line. Early adopters of the Sex and PS5 will still get a much improved version of Destiny 2. The speed and visuals will be far superior to what owners of PS4 of Xbox One are used to. As a Destiny player I can’t wait.
As said above though, there’s more. Bungie announced today that Destiny 2 is also getting a more substantial Next Gen upgrade which drops on December 8th. New features coming in include full 4k/60fps on both Sex and PS5, with 1080p only on the Series S. Not only that, but the field of view slider so popular on the PC version of the game is coming too. There is no extra charge of this upgrade, Destiny 2 employs the Smart Delivery system used by both consoles this generation. That means if you own the game and expansions already, then there is no extra charge for these upgrades.

For players on the Xbox side of the fence who subscribe to Game Pass, it’s all free. The brand new Beyond Light expansion will be available on Game Pass from day one. I do however doubt that Season Passes will be free on Game Pass, those tend to cost about £10. I’m not sure what they cost in American Dollars, but it has to be more than 10 going on currency rates.
This is a pretty neat feature coming from Bungie, however it also plays into the future. Bungie do not plan to ever make a Destiny 3. Instead the next three years will see The Destiny story end in Destiny 2 across three big yearly expansions. That means to stay relevant in the Next Gen, Destiny has to keep up.
