Canceled Game Of Thrones Spinoff Would Have Reportedly Explored White Walker Origins | LRM’s Barside Buzz

Details hit about canceled Game of Thrones spinoff The Long Night.

Game of Thrones may have ended its run on HBO, but the world of Westeros will continue to be explored. We’ve known for years that there were several series in development. Over the course of those months, two have taken meaningful steps forward and only one has been fully ordered in series form. One series that hit pilot production before being canceled was a series starring Naomi Watts that author George R.R. Martin called The Long Night.

The details we knew about the series were sparse. We knew it took place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones and that it took place at the end of the golden Age of Heroes. Apart from that, we knew nothing, Jon Snow. But the outlet Redanian Intelligence, a go-to place for fantasy-centric scoops, recently had a whole batch of details regarding the canceled series.

According to them, one aspect of Game of Thrones spinoff would have explored the origin of the White Walkers. With that in mind, it makes sense that the show would have also included Children of the Forest. Sadly, they didn’t delve into the “how” behind it all, but we can just put that up on a mantle as something that may be explored later down the line. For what it’s worth, the show was apparently going to feature undead. Given the presence of White Walkers, this isn’t at all surprising.

Sadly, there isn’t much else of interest from the report. In it, they give us some details regarding who confirmed cast members were playing, but without any real context, it’s hard to get super attached to any one aspect of the report.

Well, at the very least, we will be getting The House of the Dragon as the Game of Thrones spinoff of choice. Clearly, there’s something there that HBO saw worth greenlighting. Let’s hope it can do better than the last seasons of Game of Thrones in telling a satisfying story.
