Captain America: New World Order Director Teases The Leader’s Return

Cap 4 set photos showing both President Ross and The Leader on the set of New World Order. Plus Thunderbolts gets a new writer.

Unless you missed it over the D23 weekend. The Leader was confirmed as the main villain of Cap 4. Now Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah teases The Leader’s return in the MCU after a 14 year hiatus. The Leader was a teased, and no more at the finale of The Incredible Hulk, the second ever MCU movie and the only OG Avengers movie not to get a sequel. Ergo, we’eve never seen Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader since.

Here is what Onah said about The Leader’s return when he appeared on Phase Zero at D23.

“Let’s just say, one of the things that really drew me to this project is the Leader is a man who operates from intellect. And it’s so great to have an adversary who is working with this incredible intellect to really put Sam through the wringer in this story. And, again, it’s a paranoid thriller, it’s this grounded adventure where I think everything that happens in this film feels so real and intense because of who this adversary is. So, back to that other question of yours, what he’s going to have to go through in this film is because he’s got an adversary who is so terrifyingly intelligent.”

Sterns will once again be played by The Incredible Hulk actor Tim Blake Nelson. The Leader was a villain I was disappointed wasn’t used earlier. I always enjoyed the character in the comics and animated shows. There are so many different versions of the character, I don’t think there’s one way he is. I’m expecting something quite different from The Leader than what we might have seen before, or expected. Especially when Onah talks about this being a grounded, paranoid adventure.

Now the question remains, will The Leader show up first in something like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law? I’ve heard no rumors to this, so I guess we will have to wait and see on that front?

What do you think of his comments as Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah teases The Leader’s return? Thoughts below as always.
