The Thunderbolts Team Revealed At D23 2022

Some surprising casting news today as we discover both Wendell Pierce and Chris Bauer have been cast in Thunderbolts*.

One of the big reveals at this year’s Marvel Studios presentation at D23 was the revelation of the Thunderbolts team. This is the upcoming Marvel supervillain team-up movie that was announced at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con.

The Thunderbolts team is comprised of Red Guardian, Ghost, US Agent, Taskmaster, Yelena, and The Winter Soldier. It was revealed that Julia Louise-Dreyfuss’ Valentia Allegra de Fontaine will manage the team. The actors that will be reprising their roles will be David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Florence Pugh, and Sebastian Stan.

Three of the team members hail from the Black Widow film (Red Guardian, Yelena, and Taskmaster). Ghost first and last appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp. US Agent was featured in the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which also starred Bucky Barnes who we have seen in many of the Marvel films throughout the years.

Thunderbolts will wrap up the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s phase 5, which will be a huge moment in the Multiverse Saga. Attached to direct the film is Jake Schreier.

Over the course of the history of Marvel Comics, there have been a wide variety of members of the Thunderbolts team in the same manner that Suicide Squad team members can change from story to story.

One sour note that I have noticed online is that they are many that are disappointed that Baron Zemo, played by Daniel Brühl, is not part of the team. Also some cries of maybe wanting a Red Hulk.

Overall, these are the characters that I expected to be on the team. It fits with the teases we have seen in some of the previous films and series.

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts is scheduled to open in theaters on July 26, 2024.
