Captain Marvel 2 will star Ms. Marvel and feature a Secret Invasion storyline? Read on for more details.

Well, this is some news that will likely excite a lot of comic book fans. We may not know when Captain Marvel 2 is coming out, but we do know it’s coming. The billion-dollar gross of its predecessor guaranteed that. But just how ambitious will the story be? As much money as that first movie made, it was very much a standalone affair, with its scope kept pretty darn narrow. However, with Carol Danvers finally being fully integrated into the rest of the MCU, things were guaranteed to get bigger.

And that’s exactly what this latest Captain Marvel 2 rumor states. According to The Direct, Ms. Marvel will feature in the film. Not only will she be in, but she’ll have a legitimate supporting role. Given that Ms. Marvel is likely to start filming soon and therefore release before Captain Marvel 2, that makes sense. After becoming familiar with her small-screen escapades, Marvel Studios would want to bring the Marvels together.

The rumor doesn’t stop there, though. Not only will Ms. Marvel feature in the film, but the film itself will features “many important MCU characters” as well. So many will be included that it is being described as a “mini-Avengers film.”

And the story they are adapting? The outlet states they are working off of the Secret Invasion storyline. Given the introduction of the Skrulls in the first film, this is something we’ve all been waiting for. It also helped that we’ve already seen a similar instance of faking MCU characters in Spider-Man: Far From Home, when Nick Fury revealed himself as Talos. While the group we met ended up being good guys, there were plenty out there who likely harbored more ill will toward Earth and the rest of the universe. 

Regardless of the details, this is cool news. This could effectively be the Captain America: Civil War of whatever Phase Captain Marvel 2 hits. I’m interested to see who will be brought into this story and, more importantly, who will be revealed as Skrulls.
