Captain Marvel: Disney Releases Updated Official Synopsis

Yesterday was basically Captain Marvel day in the movie news world, as we all got our first glimpse at the first trailer for the upcoming MCU movie. Whilst it seems from comments on here and social media that fans were not overly impressed with the first trailer, it certainly looked good to me.

We have known about Captain Marvel for so damn long that it feels like we have been waiting forever for official news to replace the rumors and speculation. Prior to this all we had officially to go on was the synopsis released by Marvel when the film went into production. Yesterday, Marvel released a new official synopsis for the movie and whilst it’s almost identical there are some small differences.

Here is the previous official synopsis for Captain Marvel.

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And this is the new synopsis released yesterday to coincide with the trailer.

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

You will see clearly, that there is basically one additional line in this synopsis about Carol and her small cadre of allies being at the center of a maelstrom. I think we are supposed to think of her allies in this context as the Starforce team she is seen fighting with in the trailer led by Jude Law’s character who will be (we all presume) Mar-Vell. However, given what we know about the Kree and Ronin later in the MCU, and the fact that we think Carol’s memories of being from Earth have been erased, I kinda wonder if this small cadre of allies refers simply to Nick Fury and Agent Coulson on Earth, rather than her superhero playmates.

It would not surprise me at all to learn that the Kree are less than heroic within this war with the Skrulls and that Earth is in very real danger of being overrun by the Skrulls due to the Kree trying to wipe them all out genocide style. I could be wrong, but I can see a showdown looming between Carol Danvers and Mar-Vell at the climax of this movie. Either way, this new synopsis isn’t the most exciting news, but we thought we should share the subtle change with all our readers.
