Marvel Studios has a tone of crazy magicians working for them. In addition to the magic they bring to the screen on a pretty regular basis, they’ve also consistently been improving on the technology surrounding the aging and deaging of certain actors. We saw it utilized in films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier to age up Peggy Carter, and we also saw it used in Ant-Man to age down Hank Pym.
But that’s not all. One huge aspect of Captain Marvel is Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. The character was first introduced to us back in 2008’s Iron Man, and he’s since been one of the many recurring characters in this whole universe. With Captain Marvel taking place in the ’90s, it was essential that they use some of that same buttery tech on Jackson in the flick.
IMAX recently released a brand-new roundtable video. In it, we see some of the artists behind the film discussing, among other things, “youthening” Samuel L. Jackson in the film. But they don’t stop there, they also talk bringing the Skrulls to life, all while showcasing some exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Check it out above!
The artists taking part in the roundtable are:
– Camille Friend, Hair Department Head/Hair Stylist to Mr. Jackson
– Shane Mahan, Makeup Head
– Sanja Hays, Costume Designer
– Brian Sipe, Legacy Effects Department Head
– Heba Thorisdottir, Makeup Department Head/Makeup Artist to Ms. Larson
– Chris Townsend, VFX Supervisor
