While we currently live in the ultimate era of franchises, it goes without saying that there are some out there that don’t always make it past one or two films. More than ever, studios seem to be going for high risk, high reward projects for obvious reasons: more money. Last we heard, that was kind of the main reason why National Treasure 3 hadn’t happened yet. Why would Disney dump a metric ton into National Treasure 3 when they can pour it into the next Marvel Studios project and make more money?
But does that mean the film is dead? Has Nic Cage stolen his last American historical artifact? Apparently, a shareholder was wondering the same thing. At a recent annual shareholders meeting, one woman asked what was going on with National Treasure 3, and Iger was apparently willing to answer.

As it stands, they really aren’t actively pursuing a threequel for the movie. That being said, producer Jerry Bruckheimer apparently really wants to see this third film get made at some point, but the studio hasn’t found a way to make it work. No details were revealed as to the “why” behind that, but we do know that absolutely nothing has been greenlit yet.
So yeah, it’s not in the works yet, so don’t hold your breath, but it is good to hear the film is at least popping up in conversations at the studio. How badly do you want a sequel? Let us know down below!
