It is believed that men who own cats as pets tend to be more sensitive in a relationship. One woman in Cat Person, discovers a man she was dating is highly toxic and quite the opposite of what she expected.
The film stars Emilia Jones (CODA), Nicholas Braun (Succession), Geraldine Viswanathan (Drive-Away Dolls), Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velbet), Fred Melamed (A Serious Man), Liza Koshy (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts), and Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark). Former DGA-award winner Susanna Fogel (A Small Light) directed the film from the screenplay by Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex) based on the short story of Kristen Roupenians in The New Yorker.
Here is the synopsis of Cat Person:
When Margot, a college sophomore (Emilia Jones), goes on a date with the older Robert (Nicholas Braun), she finds that IRL Robert doesn’t live up to the Robert she has been flirting with over texts. Cat Person is a razor-sharp exploration of the gender divide, the quagmire of navigating modern dating, and the dangerous projections we make in our minds about the person at the other end of our phones.

This is one of the buzziest films of this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The original short story became famous as a short fiction as readers debated the concepts of the modern dating scene, consent, and seduction.
“Like the short story that stirred so much controversy, Cat Person will call upon you to reflect on romantic encounters you’ve had in the past and to question the role (or multiple roles) you may have played. We’ve all been the victim in some narratives and the villain in others, and I hope you’ll walk out of this film with a strong opinion, ready to debate,” stated director Susanna Fogel in a release.
Cat Person is in select theaters beginning October 6.
