Hopefully, Nicolas Cage can be available for the upcoming Disney+ series National Treasure. For now, Catherine Zeta-Jones steps in for a leading series regular role in the series.

The series is not necessarily a reboot, but it follows a younger heroine named Jess. She is a very brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on an adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

Lisette Alexis (Waltz of the Angels) plays the lead role as Jess Morales. The rest of the cast includes Lyndon Smith (Parenthood), Jordan Rodrigues (Lady Bird), Jake Austin Walker (Rectify), Antonio Cipriano (Jagged Little Pill), and Zuri Reed (Flatbush Misdemeanors).

Catherine Zeta-Jones received the Academy Award for her role as the scandalous Velma Kelly in the screen adaptation of Chicago.  She was also nominated for a Golden Globe and received the Critics’ Choice Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in this performance. She won a Tony Award for Lead Actress in a Musical for her acclaimed Broadway debut as Desiree Armfeldt in A Little Night Music. Her other film credits included The Mask of Zorro¸ Entrapment, Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean 12, Side Effects, Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal, Coen Brothers’ dark comedy Intolerable Cruelty, and Traffic, which earned her a Global Globe nomination as the wife of a drug runner. Recently, she starred in the telefilm Cocaine Godmother, based on the real-life story of the drug lord Griselda Blanco.

According to various sources, National Treasure 3 is still in the scriptwriting stage. It is not known when the film version will be in production.

A release date for the National Treasure series has not been announced at this time.
