Goodbye CBS All Access; hello Paramount+.
It’s been a good run, CBS All Access. You may not have been the favorite streaming platform, or even the fifth favorite, but you did exist. Sure, I still root for your failure as a service, but you’re still here and clearly doing something right. At the very least, you’ve made enough Star Trek series to stay afloat. Now, you’re ready to move on to your next form. As it turns out, that new form comes with a whole new name.
According to THR, parent company ViacomCBS is looking to bolster their streaming business. One aspect of that comes with a rebranding of CBS All Access into Paramount+. The service will reportedly relaunch in early 2021 along with an expanded roster of original titles for subscribers to take advantage of.
As it turns out, original titles include The Godfather series, The Real Criminal Minds, and a revival of the sitcom The Game.
“Paramount is an iconic and storied brand beloved by consumers all over the world, and it is synonymous with quality, integrity and world-class storytelling,” CEO Bob Bakish told THR in a statement. “With Paramount+, we’re excited to establish one global streaming brand in the broad-pay segment that will draw on the sheer breadth and depth of the ViacomCBS portfolio to offer an extraordinary collection of content for everyone to enjoy.”

Apparently, CBS All Access has been adding content leading up to the rebrand, including titles from its portfolio of networks. The eventual goal is to include 30,000 TV episodes and films. As stated above, they also hope to beef up their original programming. Paramount+ will also feature premiers from Showtime — at least overseas. Sadly, in the U.S., users will still have to experience Showtime as a separate streaming service.
Said David Lynn, president and CEO of ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI): “With the global launch of Paramount+ we are poised to become as powerful a player in streaming as we are in TV. VCNI is focused on building a meaningful, global brand presence in our key markets, generating material advertising, subscription and licensing revenue from streaming. By leveraging the iconic Paramount brand, leading-edge infrastructure from ViacomCBS along with an incredible, super-sized pipeline of must-see content, Paramount+ will deliver an exceptional consumer entertainment experience and significantly disrupt the streaming industry.”
