It seems that Channing Tatum’s Gambit actually survived Deadpool & Wolverine and there’s hints he may be back. You’d be forgiven for missing this in the film, but the footage of Tatum’s Gambit surviving was there. It was just really small on one of the TVA’s monitors off to the side.

However, star Ryan Reynolds has now posted the scene on X and there’s more. When we see it in full scale it’s pretty obvious that in Gambit’s eyes we can see the reflection of a magic portal. In other words, the kind that sorcerers use, not the TVA time doors.

Now as I’m sure you are aware, this absolutley opens up the chance Tatum could reprise his role down the line. He’s been rescued, or attacked, or kidnapped by whoever was using that portal ring.

Surely that’s vague enough that Marvel could play with that in a number of ways going forward. It also seems a popular decision amongst the fan base. Tatum’s Gambit was actually one of the most popular surprise characters in the film with audiences.

I would not want Tatum as the MCU version of Gambit in the X-Men reboot. But for another comedic turn with Deadpool as a variant, I think it would be great. For me, what we saw was a comedic take on Gambit, and it was great. But I want the reboot of X-Men to be more serious and darker in tone. Maybe that is just me though?
