Deadline is reporting hat is perhaps the strangest news of the day. Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid is set to be remade, into a futuristic scince fiction film titled The Kid: An Animated Adventure.

Here is what Deadline had to say about the film’s plot

“The Kid: An Animated Adventure is set in a futuristic New York City which has been flooded and split vertically into two distinct regions. Tremblay’s eponymous character is a young boy living with his mother in Uptown, a boring, artless place of overprotective safety. When he runs away seeking adventure, he winds up in the mysterious and dangerous Downtown and encounters Chaplin, a robot with a human soul. Together, the two embark on adventures to discover the secret mystery behind Chaplin, while pursued by police, the Kid’s mother, and a colorful cast of modern circus performers.”

In many ways it seems to be a far leap from the original film which had Chaplin’s character, the Tramp, finding a baby and taking it in. Years later the mother, who is now famous reappears, while Chaplina and the child struggle to make it. There are also a few similartiesother than the robot’s name.

This actually does have me intrigued. While I of course know who Charlie Chaplin is, I can’t say I’ve ever seen one of his films in its entirety. Having said that, this odd sort of genre jump may push to be watch The Kid, simply to have a reference point to the  upcoming animated film.
