Hungry for more Judge Dredd? As we’ve previously reported, a live-action Judge Dredd television show is on the way, titled Judge Dredd: Mega-City One. It is planned as an ensemble drama following a team of Judges, including Dredd. Initially, it was thought the project was another reboot, or “soft reboot,” following the lackluster box office of 2012’s Dredd starring Karl Urban as the title Judge, but with the revelation just this week that Karl Urban is currently in talks to appear in Mega-City One, it looks like we may be returning to the world of Dredd as established in 2012.
Well, now we have our first look at the current vision for that world, and though it isn’t a perfect match for what we were given in 2012, it’s pretty damn close. Think Dredd, only a little bit even more like Blade Runner, as though Dredd‘s world has less neon signs and more of a desolate look, the two franchises have obviously influenced eachother at some time in their past.

The main thing to note is that we appear to be seeing the outside world of Mega-City One, whereas the film Dredd was mostly confined to Peach Trees, a large 200 floor housing projects tower in Mega-City One. Even the second image appears to be an outdoor alley of some type and not the inside of a housing projects tower.
Fingers crossed that Judge Dredd: Mega City One secures Karl Urban and finds the right network or online streaming service to do it justice. I’m really looking froward to a continuation of Dredd, and this concept art looks fantastic, but the wrong network or casting could kill the spirit of Dredd.
