Chancellor Palpatine was on an almost unfathomabl level of puppet mastery. Using skills such as cunning, deception, and manipulation to enact Order 66, all but eliminating the Jedi and taking over the galaxy with only minor complications. And one could argue he was still in control the entire time.
However, what if bigger problems had arose, ensued, and not been overcome (if you can name the character I borrowed that quote from you win 1 LRM cool point. It’s not a Star Wars character)? This outcome is of course not canonically possible, but still yet, it’s a lot of fun to think about. The fantastic YouTube channel Star Wars Theory has done more than just ponder the idea. Check out the impressive video below of an alternate take on the end of the prequel films, in a galaxy where Palpatine’s Order 66 failed.
What I enjoyed in this video was the showdown, the Force Battles and lightsaber duels. As I’ve mentioned before, while I enjoy the military aspect, the actal star war, the Jedi/Sith dynamic is what I like most. If nothing else the video gives Ki-Adi Mundi a much more storyline more deserving of a member of the Jedi Coucil. As opposed to beings shot in the back by a Clonetrooper in Revenge of the Sith.
While this story would alter the following films, with a few changes, it could fit within the saga. A New Hope would see Anakin escape, resurrect Palpatine. The two would then go after the Jedi once again, it would be intersting to see those two out of power and at a disadvantage. We know Marvel has a What if? series on the way, one for Star Wars would be something to consider.
