As the date for the Power Rangers movie slowly approaches, it’s hard not to get over how far the film has come. If you were to look at the campy source material from the 1990s, you may wonder how in the world they’d be able to get a property like that to work on the big screen. Sure, we here at LRM are big fans of said source material, but there’s no denying that it’s a bit of a time capsule of the age from whence it came. Not only does it feel restricted to the ‘90s, but chances are you have to have been of a certain age in order to truly appreciate it. As such, they had to be careful about how they adapted.

Just look at two of the movies they made in the ‘90s. The first one underperformed, and the second one outright flopped? Because while the tone is all good and fun for kids, it doesn’t necessarily transition well to general audiences. Yet somehow, the folks over at Lionsgate have managed to do it. They’ve managed to intrigue the general populous with their Power Rangers movie, giving them what seems like a cross between Chronicle and the original series.

We’re all but sold, but as we inch closer to the release date, the studio inevitably pushes out more and more advertising for the flick. Check out the latest power below:

This new poster gives us a solid look at the Rangers’ suits. Admittedly, if you haven’t been sold on their design, this poster won’t do much to convince you, though we will say the visual stylings of the CG works surprisingly well in motion. It’s a style that’s shiny, and almost gaudy. A good portion of its charm is lost in a lot of their advertising, and we wonder if it’ll end up hurting it a bit at the box office.

Regardless, you can count us excited for this flick. Between the great trailers we’ve had so far and the details surrounding the plot, it seems like it’ll all result in an entertaining popcorn movie.

“Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.”
