It’s not often you get a sequel 23 years after the original, bur here we are with the Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget trailer. The folks at Aardman are back, and so are Ginger and Rocky. Last time, the gang staged a breakout of Tweedy’s Chicken Farm. However, this time, they are trying to break in to the Tweedy’s new set up. Check it out.
As you can see, this sequel is being produced by Netflix. However, the studio making it is still Aardman. Netflix are just paying the bills. As such, the movie is not currently scheduled for a theatre release. Instead it should drop on Netflix on December 15th as per the trailer above.

For Ginger and the flock, all is at stake when the dangers of the human world come home to roost; they’ll stop at nothing even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk to save chicken-kind. This time, they’re breaking in!

It’s hard to say for sure, but it looks like that signature Aardman humor is present and correct. I normally wonder how this very British humor will translate in the US. However, the first movie did remarkably well Stateside. Equally some of the Wallace and Gromit TV films have grown in popularity across the pond.
One thing that sold the original film back in 2000 was that Mel Gibson was the voice of Rocky. Gibson is NOT back for the sequel, and the voice of Rocky will be performed by Zachary Levi. You may remember him from such films as Shazam, and flop Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
