Chris Evans, Rachel Dratch, And John Krasinski Remind Us Where They’re From In The Hilarious Hyundai ‘Smaht Pahk’ Super Bowl Ad

Smaht Pahk

Alright, I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for movies and television programs that feature the Massachusetts accent.

Boston. Dorchester. Lowell. New Bedford. Charlestown. These towns have been featured in multiple “Boston movies” throughout the years, and I am a fan of pretty much all of them. Ever since Cliff Clavin uttered his nuggets of knowledge over at Cheers, that unique accent that replaces an R with an H has appealed to me. So much so that I continuously try to brush up on my own Massachusetts accent.

No. I haven’t mastered it yet.

Adding to my interest in the accent, Hyundai’s big Super Bowl commercial featured three Massachusetts natives as its main stars. Avengers: Endgame and Knives Out star Chris Evans, SNL alumni Rachel Dratch, and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan lead John Krasinski each resurrected the accent from their New England roots to introduce the Hyundai Sonata’s new feature, Smart Park. Or as the three of them put it, “Smaht Pahk.”

Joined later by Boston Red Sox legend “Big Papi” David Ortiz, Evans, and Dratch are amazed when they see Krasinki’s new Sonata literally park itself using its new automated feature. While the technology is intriguing, what sells this ad is the banter between the three leads. Fueled with the slang and phrases mastered by those born and raised in “The Codfish State,” Krasinksi assures the two of the vehicle’s perfect parking job. The ad is closed out with The Standells “Dirty Water,” a well-known sporting classic for the Boston area.

Evans, Dratch, and Krasinski had a lot of fun with this. The comfort in delivering their lines at a rapid-fire pace made it seem as if this spot could be the genesis for a future sitcom with these three. I would like to make it clear that I would strongly approve of that sitcom.

Hyundai. Start shopping this around to the streaming services, pronto!
