Chris Hemsworth Looking For Another Change In Direction For Thor In MCU

In a recent interview filmmaker Gareth Edwards denies he's in talks to direct Thor 5.

Chris Hemsworth is looking for another change in direction for Thor in the MCU. Hemsworth admits he’s not sure what comes next for his God of Thunder. However whatever does happen, Hemsworth is looking for a something new, and different. Here is what Hemsworth had to say about the what would bring him back in the MCU for another go. The Thor actor appeared on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast.

“I mean you look at Thor one and two, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love & Thunder: similar. I think it’s just about re-inventing it,” Hemsworth explained. “And I’ve had such a unique opportunity even with [Avengers] Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character; I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes, it keeps me on my toes, keeps me invested. And I’ve said this before: when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk of getting lazy I think, like ‘Ah, I know what I’m doing,’ you know? So I don’t know – again, I don’t even know if I’m invited back. But if I was, I think it’d have to be a drastically different version – tone, everything. Just for my own sanity [laughs].”

One wonders if that signals the fact that Taika Waititi may not return for Thor 5? After all, if Hemsworth is looking to change things up again, then a change of writers and directors seems to make sense. I was a fan of Thor: Love and Thunder, to me it was a movie told and shown through narrator Korg’s eyes and that’s why it is the way it is. However I know the movie was not that popular overall among Marvel fans. Therefore, perhaps a change of direction is a good idea when it comes to Thor? I can’t see there being a new Thor movie before we get to The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars but who knows for sure? I do sincerely hope Hemsworth is back for at least Secret Wars, even if he misses The Kang Dynasty.

So where should Thor go next? We’ve had the Epic, we’ve had the zany off the wall hijinks, ergo perhaps it’s time for something a bit grittier when it comes to Thor? That being said, I think Hemsworth is a natural at comedy, and would not want to see him in something too dark and brooding. I guess it’s an interesting conundrum for Marvel.

What is your take as Chris Hemsworth says he’s looking for another change in direction for Thor in the MCU? Do you agree with Hemsworth? What would you like to see next from Thor? As always, leave any thoughts below.
