Chris Hemsworth Says Avengers 4 Is More Shocking Than Infinity War

Based on the ridiculous near-$2 billion worldwide gross, the movie to beat this summer so far has been Avengers: Infinity War. The film featured dozens of superheroes in it, and of course, featured the much-talked-about and much-memed-about ending, wherein many of our heroes turned to dust upon Thanos snapping his fingers.

This was an ending that absolutely shocked theatergoers, and I can still remember the silence that permeated the room as the scene went down. By the time the credits rolled, you could hear a pin drop. With that in mind, there is no way the next film could outdo audiences on a pure shock level, right? Speaking with Esquire, Chris Hemsworth doesn’t seem to think so.

“If you were shocked by [Infinity War], I think the second one is even more shocking, for other reasons entirely. That’s what kind of blew me away the first time I read both scripts, is how they managed to orchestrate so many different characters but give them each their own separate shot and moments, and have it be elevated and feel fresh and unique—not just like a messy, thrown-together assembly of these guys.

The second one I’m probably even more excited about. Just for people to see. I just think it’s another step again. Each step we seem to take with these films, I’ve loved the fact that there’s been growth and evolution and it continues to surprise people as opposed to sort of flatlining, which was obviously always a fear—that they’d run out of ideas or run dry of creative excitement. For me, this whole experience has been incredible. In particular the last one.”

Of course, we can’t exactly expect Hemsworth to trash the film, but by this point in the game, I think Marvel Studios has won our trust to at least take what these actors say at face value. It has yet to give us a true stinker, and the folks over there seem to understand what it takes to put together a successful team-up film.

But the question remains: what can possibly be as shocking as that ending in Infinity War — these characters ACTUALLY dying? Given the number of actors whose contracts are up…you never know.
