Will Rocksteady, the developer of the acclaimed Batman: Arkham games reveal their next title is a Superman Game? I have heard mention of this for some time, and in many ways I always thought it nothing more than wishful thinking. The Arkham games were very good to great and consisted of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight. Rocksteady really did their homework and made some compelling titles where you actually do feel like you are playing as the Batman. It’s no surprise then that fans wanted to see them tackle the Man of Steel next.
Making a Batman game is one thing, but making a Superman Game is something else entirely. When you compare the skill sets and gameplay associated with the Arkham games, it doesn’t immediately seem to translate to Superman. Batman could glide and climb and use grapple hooks and specialist equipment to traverse death-defying drops and climbs, Superman would just fly to them all and a thousand other examples. I think you can see the problem faced by anyone trying to copy the Arkham formula and apply it to Superman. So where is this rumor coming from?
Now we are calling this rumor because it came from a supposed 4chan leak. Yes I know, it’s about 60/40 bull on 4chan, but hang in there with me, because something is happening. It was picked up by ComicBook and the outlet states that the game will be officially announced this week when Game Informer unveils their July cover. Rocksteady, will then debut gameplay footage during Microsoft’s upcoming E3 conference. The rumor also states that the footage will show an invasion from Brainiac which weakens Superman along some combat and flying gameplay.
Now, there is something likely to be revealed by Rocksteady at E3. Since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight they have gone radio silent and we know they are working on something big. With all the rumors and supposed leaks, is it possible that Rocksteady really have been working on the Superman Game? If it is true, I’m intrigued to see if and how they managed to pull it off. However, remember to take all this with a grain of salt before we hear something more official. I guess we will know more when Game Informer reveals it’s cover this week, or we see the Microsoft conference unfold on June 10.
Just how could a Superman Game be done without severely limiting you from the freedom you’d want playing as the ultimate superhero? I’ll leave the possible solutions to you readers in the comments section below.
