Clue Reboot Loses Its Director – Why Ozark Is To Blame

Clue reboot loses its director

The Ryan Reynolds Clue reboot loses its director Jason Bateman due to scheduling conflicts. Read on for more details.

Jason Bateman has established quite the reputation as a director. Ozark is the show Bateman has learned his craft on and Season 3 of the show has just appeared on Netflix. Now the director explains why his commitment to Ozark has meant Bateman having to drop out of directing Clue.

Bateman was set to direct a reboot of Clue starring Ryan Reynolds. I’m not sure why now is the right time to reboot Clue though? Maybe the classic sleuth movie reboot has been fast tracked due to the popularity of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out? However, it looks like Clue will be searching for a new director and a new star, as Bateman was set lead with Reynolds. That is, unless Reynolds and co. are willing to wait for the end of Ozark? Bateman spoke to Collider recently and explained the Clue situation.

“[Clue is] something that we were getting very close to starting, but as it turned out something of that size takes much, much longer to do than what the seasonal hiatus was able to accommodate. It would have pushed back the start of this season too far. So unfortunately I had to step off of that.”

However, it does sound as though Bateman holds out hope that Clue will wait for him.

“But if it’s still around when Ozark is all wrapped up, I’d love to do it. But who knows, they might put a different director on it before then. We’ll see. Unfortunately my ability to direct features really kind of—there’s a certain size of a film that I just can’t qualify for [right now] because of the amount of time that I’m able to give in prep, in shooting, and in post.”

To be honest I can’t see that happening. I guess it just wasn’t to be. Frankly, as a huge fan of Ozark, I am happy Bateman has such a commitment to finishing the show. Rumors and theories would suggest that Ozark Season 4 may be its finale, but we don’t know for sure? Ozark hasn’t actually been given a Season 4 officially, but it’s as sure a thing as you’ll get on Netflix. I am currently working my way through Ozark Season 3, like previous seasons of the show, I am fully engaged. So maybe the Clue reboot loses its director, but we have Bateman committing to the end of Ozark. No complaints here.
