Could Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler Be Back For Jurassic World 3?

WARNING: JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM SPOILERS!

Universal Studios’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom directed by J.A. Bayona was released right around the 25th anniversary of the first film in the franchise Jurassic Park directed by Steven Spielberg. In this last film we saw the return of fan favorite Ian Malcom played by Jeff Goldblum. But could we see any other classic characters return for Jurassic World 3?

In an interview with Empire Bayona and producer and co-writer Colin Trevorrow talked about the possible return of two other characters Dr. Grant, played by Sam Neil and Dr. Ellie Sattler played by Laura Dern. who were both last seen in Joe Johnston’s Jurassic Park 3 in 2001.

Bayona first confirms that the pair were never set to appear in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But Trevorrow does hint that there is a chance that they can appear in the final chapter of the Jurassic World trilogy.
“The pattern that I’ve tried to follow here is that instead of putting everyone in the first movie and slowly killing them, we’re going to slowly bring people in,” he says, “which hopefully will keep people interested in coming back to see how their favorite characters fit into this new world.”

Fans of the Jurassic Park franchise will always keep coming back for more, but I do agree that seeing our favorite characters not just plugged into the film for nostalgic purposes is important. Trevorrow said that, “I have so much respect for those characters that I just wouldn’t want them doing something that I don’t think they would naturally do.”

Take Ian Malcom for example who in the first film said that,
“If there’s one thing the history of evolution has taught us, it’s that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, it expands to new territories, and crashes through barriers painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh, well, there it is.”

Now in this latest film we see that they are loosing control of not only the dinosaurs but the knowledge that had been obtained to create the dinosaurs. Bayona states that, “and we’re crossing so many red lines in the story that we had to bring back Ian Malcolm because he’s always been this voice of conscience telling us what’s the right thing to do and what’s the wrong thing to do.”

Ellie and Grant had dealt with the dinosaurs first hand, experience that will be really vital in a world where now dinosaurs are roaming the world side by side with mankind. This is a situation where they can be inserted into the plot naturally like the creative team would like to do.

What are your thoughts on their possible return to the franchise? Would you like to see them again? Let us know in the comment section below!
