Could we get an Avengers: Infinity War trailer as soon as this week? One fan on Reddit seems to think so, and while this has nothing to do with any inside information, it’s not completely out of left field. The poster called MCUfeld noted that if Marvel Studios follows the formula from the last two Avengers film, then yes, a trailer this week is in the cards.

Here’s what he noticed.

The Avengers
Release Date: May 4, 2012
First Trailer: October 11, 2011

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Release Date: May 1, 2015
First Trailer: October 24, 2014

With that in mind, is it possible that in this last full week of October, we’ll be getting a trailer?

For years, outlets and fans have — mostly unsuccessfully — worked to find some sort of magical formula to help predict when studios will drop trailers for big budget films. All that it seems to confirm is that studios don’t always work like clockwork. There are countless factors that go into planning a marketing campaign.

So while we’d like to think Marvel Studios will be dropping a trailer soon, the reality is that the film landscape is much different than it was even back in 2014. At this point the year prior to the other Avengers films’ release dates, they were the very next films the studio had on their slate. This isn’t the case now, with Black Panther set to hit February, and since a trailer for that hit only last week, they’d run the risk of cannibalizing enthusiasm for that film.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility, but for someone looking at very specific patterns, we can’t ignore big changes from film to film. Luckily for us, it won’t take long for us to know whether or not Marvel Studios plans on repeating the patterns.

Do you think we’ll be getting a trailer either this week or early next week?
