For years leading up to the release of IT: Chapter One, it was revealed that the filmmakers were, indeed, planning on only adapting the kids’ story in that first movie. It’s a strategy that later moved on to filmmaker Andy Muschietti’s approach. With the second movie, IT: Chapter Two, which follows those kids as adults, it seemed safe to assume it would mean the end of the story.
And you know what? As far as producer Barbara Muschietti is concerned, it IS the end of the story.
“The book, as it is, is done,” she told io9.
But that’s not to say there isn’t room for more in the mythology.
“There is a whole mythology to the book though,” director Andy Muschietti said. “It’s always exciting to think of eventually exploring this mythology. It’s very exciting. But, for now, there’s nothing on the table.”
So, as of right now, there is nothing on the table, but Andy Muschietti does seem at least interested in entertaining the idea of digging into some of that mythology down the line. How that would all culminate in a film, if at all, is something to be seen in the future. Needless to say, if this second movie does anywhere near as well as the first one, New Line may poke and prod the Muschiettis to dig into that mythology to pop out another flick.
What do you think of that possibility? Is there enough there to create another film? Let us know your thoughts down below!
