Covid-19 has shut down every major studio production and seem that filming for most projects won’t start until early next year. Although most have viewed the shutdown as a disaster director Taika Waititi thinks otherwise. He has stated that the delay has allowed him and other studio projects to have more time to make their scripts better. While there hasn’t been much revealed about Thor: Love and Thunder we do know that it will star both Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman.
Although theaters are closed for the foreseeable future, production on some big budget movies like Mission Impossible and The Batman are in full swing. With strict regulations regarding Covid-19 studios are taking extra precautions and new innovative ways of filming. It looks like Taika Waititi will be using some technology that has already been used for The Mandalorian.
Recent reports in Australia suggest that production will be starting shortly. Natalie Portman has already arrived in Australia along with Taika and we know that Chris is already there. Rumors have also been circulating that production would have a helping hand from Lucasfilm VFX and Fox Studios Australia.

Although reports early in the pandemic said production for Thor: Love and Thunder wouldn’t begin until early next year, there have been photos of Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi seen together in Australia recently.
A resident visiting Byron Bay in Australia took photos of Chris Hemsworth with his brothers and, more surprisingly, director Taika Waititi, which can be seen below:

Before Covid-19 this could’ve just been a quick visit between director and his star, but with so many travel restrictions it is very likely that production could be starting sooner than we thought. With so many unknowns regarding the pandemic in the future production might be getting a head start before anything bad may occur in the future. In the case of recent lockdowns there is no certainty that travel will be allowed early next year.
Additionally, we could be looking at this with too strong of a lens and Taika could just be visiting and getting reintroduced to his cast. The movie’s supposed villain, Christian Bale, hasn’t made his way down to Australia yet. But he could already be in disguise hiding among the people in Australia.
But that is not why you are hear or want to believe. The fact that Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi, and Chris Hemsworth are in Australia so early could be because production is indeed starting sooner than expected. These recent photo’s make it seem that we are closer to production than anyone expected.
