It’s hard to believe that it was ten years ago that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hit theaters and ended up grossing over $300 million worldwide back in 2009. A few years after that they made a sequel titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which included Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis that brought in about $375.7 million dollars. Now Paramount and Allspark Pictures have their eyes set on a spinoff film that will be centered on one of the classic G.I. Joe characters, Snake Eyes, and it looks like they are close to finding their star.

According to TheWrap, Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding is currently in talks to take on the role of the lead in the film, Snake Eyes. The film will focus on the origins of the lead ninja commando, who is well known for his black commando uniform that includes a masked face. Which include his rise as a member of the Arashikage Clan, which is a ninja clan out of Japan that operate as shadowy assassins and have earned a reputation for completing impossible tasks.

Snake Eyes will be directed by Robert Schwentke, who also directed films like Red and R.I.P.D. and is based on a screenplay written by Beauty and the Beast screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos. It is currently scheduled for an October 16th, 2020 release.

Golding has been in high demand since his role in Crazy Rich Asians. He will be featured next in Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy The Gentlemen, where he will star alongside Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant. After that, he will be featured in Paul Feig’s romantic holiday comedy Last Christmas where he will star alongside Emilia Clarke.

Do you think that Golding would be a good choice for the role of Snake Eyes? Let us know in the comment section below!

Paramount Pictures’ Snake Eyes is scheduled to hit theaters October 16th, 2020.
