Creator Sam Esmail Says Mr. Robot Will End After Its Fourth Season

Mr. Robot is a peculiar show, I would say it is very Marmite in the fact that some people really love it and others just can’t get on with it at all. Some of my friends swear by it and yet I struggled to get through Season 2 of the show when I tried watching it. I have been assured by friends that it does improve and I should push on with the show.

It was originally expected that Season 4 of Mr. Robot from USA Network would be the penultimate season, with perhaps a shorter Season 5 used as a finale. Now Creator Sam Esmail speaking with THR has revealed that Season 4 is being lengthened and delayed in order for it to serve as the finale of the show. Here is what Esmail told the outlet.

“When I first created the world of Mr. Robot, I thought it would be a niche television series with a small, cult following. Over the past three years, it has become so much more, and I am continually humbled by the show’s recognition and by the amazing cast and crew that work tirelessly to help bring my vision to life. Since day one, I’ve been building toward one conclusion — and in breaking the next season of Mr. Robot, I have decided that conclusion is finally here. Everyone on the creative team, including the amazing people at USA and UCP, didn’t want to say goodbye, but we ultimately have too much respect for Elliot’s journey to extend past its inevitable ending. Therefore, season four will serve as the final chapter of the Mr. Robot story. To fans of the show: thank you for the past three years, and I can’t wait to share this exciting final season with you.”

I hate to see a show overstay it’s welcome and if Esmail believes that this is the best way to end Mr. Robot, who am I to argue. Mr. Robot will not now return till 2019 and instead of an 8 episode run it will be extended to 12 episodes instead.

Starring Rami Malek and Christian Slater, Mr. Robot has proved to be both a critical and commercial success and has in many ways ignited the career of Malek. I only hope it does something similar for Christian Slater. As a kid growing up Slater was around the perfect age to be a bit of an icon for me, I remember first seeing him in Heathers, a movie I love. I also enjoyed one of his first ever features Gleaming the Cube as a bit of a guilty pleasure. The movie is pretty trash, but I was into Skateboarding like many kids in the early 90’s, so to me Slater was the king of cool. I definitely rate him and wish he appeared in more prominent roles these days.
