Star Wars: Episode IX – Casting Call Goes Out For A ‘Young Charlize Theron’ For Unknown Role

Star Wars: Episode 9 is currently in principal photography in England. Whilst most of the returning cast are already in the UK for filming, there has also been a steady stream of new character casting slowly being announced as filming progresses.

It now seems that after the likes of Richard E Grant and Matt Smith were added to the movie, Lucasfilm are on the hunt for another new cast member. Reportedly Lucasfilm are looking for a female actor to play an unknown role tagged KARINA. That Hashtag Show has shared some details of exactly what the casting directors are looking for. The outlet revealed that Lucasfilm are looking for,

“A younger Charlize Theron with street smarts and a sharp wit.”

The studio is open to any ethnicity, but is looking for someone with,

“A good sense of humor, solid comedic timing and a strong voice.”

Logic would suggest this role is not a major one in the new movie, because they would have made a point of casting the role far earlier than this. Also, clearly the character isn’t required for whatever parts of the movie are currently being filmed in England. How quick they are looking to fill this role and what importance this character has to the overall movie is anyone’s guess outside of the production team right now?

I am loathe to use the term ‘strong female character’ as I hate it’s negative connotations, but perhaps my descriptive prose is lacking a better term to my fault. I guess when I think of a young Charlize Theron, I see roles like Theron played in Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde. I see a hard edged and physically capable actor, and yet Theron has played a variety of different types of roles in her career as she is an excellent actor.

Am I the only one wishing they just got Theron, who could still pass for late 20’s to early 30’s in my book? Of course she would cost a little bit more money than Lucasfilm might want to spend on a supporting role. I also think of Star Wars as a franchise which brings in new ‘on the cusp’ actors and turns them into mega stars. I am sure a lot of up an coming actors will be getting their agents to pass their information onto Lucasfilm this morning.

Someone out there is going to be getting a role in a Star Wars movie, who knows if they could be the next big thing?
