I am a huge fan of the Rocky franchise. I am also a sucker for nostalgia. When the Creed films first hit the big screen I was beyond excited. The passing of the torch to Apollo’s son played by the amazing Michael B. Jordan is a great concept. While some of of the reviews are mixed about Creed II, I enjoyed it! The anticipation for a third installment has always been there for me. However, it looks as if the release date for Creed III has been knocked back.
Rocky IV has always been my favorite in the series. The underdog confrontation with Ivan Drago, in Russia, and overcoming the insurmountable odds is badass. Creed II pays great homage to Rocky IV. Creed II is the revenge story of Apollo’s son, Adonis, vs. Viktor Drago, the son of the man who killed his father, Ivan Drago. I absolutely appreciated the plot (nostalgia overload)! The film obviously paves the way for the ninth installment in the franchise, Creed III. Unfortunately, the film will be the first without Sylvester Stallone as Rocky. But, Michael B. Jordan can more then carry the legacy. It will be Jordan’s directing debut as well.
Jordan speaks about what the film means to him:
“This franchise and, in particular, the themes of ‘Creed III’ are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake.”
While the third film in the series looks to take on a new antagonist, Anderson Dame (Jonathan Majors), we do not know much else. Although, the original release date is November 23 of this year. However, it is hit back to March 3, 2023. So, we will have to wait a little longer for Jordan’s directing debut, and the next installment in the series.
Are you excited for Creed III? What are you hoping to see from the film? What is your favorite Rocky movie, and why? Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
